ˌMan ˈFriday noun a loyal and trusted servant or helper. This name comes from a character in the book Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe. He is a black man who becomes Crusoe’s servant and friend after Crusoe saves him from being killed by cannibals (=people who eat other people).
